Katie R. Burt
Clinical Therapist & Supervising Clinician
My top priority is to make clients feel safe, valued, and understood, because I believe these are the conditions needed for healing and growth to occur.
Hi, I’m Katie! My pronouns are she/her and I am clinical therapist and supervising clinician at COR Counseling. I am a Licensed Master Social Worker (MSW, 2018, Michigan State University) and I also hold a BA in Women & Gender Studies (2009, Oakland University). Prior to working at COR, I practiced in community mental health, inpatient psych, and special education. I bring varied work and lived experience in mental health to the therapy chair - as well as three cats that enjoy saying hello on camera.
I specialize in working with LGBTQ+ and neurodiverse adults. My therapy style is most influenced by Carl Rogers and humanistic psychology, which means extending unconditional positive regard to my clients, meeting people where they are and helping people become their most empowered and self-actualized selves. The therapeutic modalities I pull in are flexible and based on the needs and goals of my clients, but may include CBT, DBT, ACT, Motivational Interviewing, and somatic therapy. I practice from frameworks of intersectionality, social justice, harm reduction, and Health At Every Size.
My top priority is to make clients feel safe, valued, and understood, because I believe these are the conditions needed for healing and growth to occur. Whether it's your first time in therapy or you're just looking for a new perspective, I am honored and grateful to provide a supportive and welcoming space for you.
